Kerrville, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball
team hit clutch free throws in the final seconds as the Cru posted a
68-59 victory over Schreiner University Saturday
afternoon in Kerrville. The win snaps UMHB's six-game losing streak and
moves the Cru to 3-13 overall and 2-9 in American Southwest Conference
play. Schreiner falls to 6-12 overall and 2-10 in ASC play with the
loss.
UMHB opened the game with a 6-0 run and led 14-2 at
the 15:20 mark of the first half. The Cru continued to dominate the
first half and led 34-16 at the break. The UMHB lead would be 19 early
in the second half before the Mountaineers chipped away and took a 52-51
lead with 5:58 remaining. Macy Moore would score three straight points
to put the Cru back on top and Taylor Tucker and Moore added buckets to
give UMHB a six-point cushion. Schreiner closed to within three, but the
Cru closed the game with an 8-2 run as Moore buried six key free-throws
down the stretch.
Jovana Miles led UMHB with 17 points
and 14 rebounds. Moore added 15 points and went 7-7 from the stripe.
Tucker added 14 points and eight boards after missing Thursday's
game with an illness. The Cru shot 45 percent from the field and went
18-22 from the charity stripe while out rebounding Schreiner 45-21 in
the victory.

to lead the Mountaineers and Bailey Harris scored 14. Brooke Sanders
also reached double figures with 13 for Schreiner. The Mountaineers shot
38 percent from the floor and went just 17-31 from the free-throw line.
The
UMHB women are in the midst of a six-game conference road trip. That
swing continues next week with games at Sul Ross State University on Thursday in Alpine and at Howard Payne University in Brownwood on Saturday.
