Both the tenant and building owner were sued. The dogs were supposed to be kept in an enclosure, but were allowed to run loose.

Due to New Jersey’s strict liability dog-bite statute, the case’s liability issues centered on questions of ownership and responsibility for the two dogs.

The case settled for $563,501, reflecting the amount awarded following court-mandated arbitration proceedings.
