
IRVING, Texas - Brittney Griner has been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as chosen by a media panel. Griner extended her record for career women's basketball weekly honors to 24 and earned her fifth award of the season and third straight. Brittney Martin (Oklahoma State) and Zahna Medley (TCU) earned Co-Freshman of the Week honors, Martin picked up her fourth freshman accolade while Medley claimed her third.
Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week
Brittney Griner, Baylor, C, Sr, Houston, Texas
Brittney Griner averaged 27.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 6.0 blocks and
2.0 assists in Baylor's wins over K-State and West Virginia last week.
She shot .639 (23-of-36) from the floor and .600 (9-of-15) from the
charity stripe. Griner hit 12-of-19 shots en route
to 29 points at K-State. She added seven rebounds, three assists and
three blocks. In addition, the 6-8 center threw down her third dunk of
the season and raised her NCAA career record total to 10. Against West
Virginia, Griner narrowly missed a triple-double,
tallying 26 points and recording season highs in both rebounding (15)
and blocked shots (9). She moved to No. 2 on the Big 12 career free
throw chart with 700. With 2,796 points, Griner needs 40 points to
become the league's all-time scoring leader.
