(KCEN) -- Plans for the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline will proceed with a new route through Nebraska.
Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman approved the revised route for the pipeline, which will stretch from Canada to the Texas coast.
The new route will avoid the state's environmentally sensitive sand hills region but cut through an area containing an aquifer.
The fate of the pipeline now rests in the hands of the Obama administration.
Final approval has to come from the State Department before the project can move forward.
