(KCEN) -- Three Texas lawmakers are hoping to make schools safer with the Texas School District Security Act.
Republican Senator Tommy Williams, Democratic Senator John Whitmire and Republican State Representative Dan Huberty are drafting the bill.
The dedicated funding source could be used for a number of things like more police officers and security cameras, or whatever the school district decides they need to make the campus safer.
The bill would require districts to hold public meetings to spell out the security plan for the community, along with the costs.
The school board must revisit and re-vote on the plan every five years.
The lawmakers behind the bill say the beauty of this is local choice.
