WWII Vet's House Vandalized, Marines Help Clean Up Damage

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- In Houston a 93-year-old World War II vet had his home vandalized on Monday.

But just a day later a group of Marines took action to clean up the damage.

Elbert Wood was returning home from a doctor's appointment when he found his home burglarized and heavily damaged.

Radio talk show host Michael Barry pulled several Marines together along with some contractors.

And they plan to help re-paint his walls, clean his carpet, and even replace some furniture.

Wood said, "It feels wonderful that so many people are helping me and are gonna get my house looking back the way it was."

One of the Marines who helped out, Maj. Roberto Rodriguez said, "It's important that he knows that we're here for him and that we're always his brothers."

As for the suspects, Wood says if he had his way, he'd give them a hard spanking.

Police have arrested two teens, ages 14 and 16.

They're charged with burglary.
