Maintenance Man Injured in Houston-Area College Shooting Speaks Out

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- A maintenance man wounded in the shooting at a community college in Houston is speaking out.

Carlton Berry is accused of shooting 69-year-old Bobby Cliburn in the leg after an argument with another student.

Cliburn says he thought he could help defuse the situation.

He said, "He was speaking to somebody inside and anyway he made a move towards the building and I told myself well I'll try and calm the situation before it gets any worse. I tried to duck behind one of the columns and he got me before I could do it."

Cliburn has been released from the hospital, but he still has the bullet lodged in his leg.

Twenty-five-year-old Berry is charged in the shooting.

Investigators are still searching for the gun and a possible second suspect.
