(KCEN) -- There is new information today on a 16-year-old case that shook the nation.
Years after the JonBenet Ramsey case went cold, a new secret about her murder is now out.
Published reports say a grand jury voted to indict Ramsey's parents back in 1999, on a charge of child abuse resulting in death.
But the prosecutor refused to sign the indictment, thinking he couldn't prove that case in court. He feared it could compromise any future prosecution of a possible intruder.
A federal judge ruled in 2003 that there was "virtually no evidence" linking the parents to the crime.
JonBenet was a six-year-old beauty queen when she was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her parents' Colorado home on December 26, 1996.
