(KCEN) -- Iran says it has successfully sent a monkey into space.
Iranian state TV described the launch as another step toward the country's goal of a manned space flight.
The rocket carried the monkey 72 miles up and brought it back safely.
There was little other information on the timing or location of the launch.
The U.S. and its allies worry that technology from the space program could also be used to develop long-range missiles armed with nuclear warheads.
