(KCEN) -- Two companies have recalled more than a thousand pounds of ground beef.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 16 people got sick from salmonella found in ground beef in five states.

Half of them were hospitalized but so far no deaths have been reported.

The CDC named two companies as likely sources of the contaminated meat.

So before you eat ground beef, the CDC recommends cooking it thoroughly.
