Resale Center Helping Fort Hood Families

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Tuesday was just like Christmas for one military non profit in Killeen.

A truck filled with almost $500,000 in donations was brought to central Texas all the way from half way across the country.

It was a long day filled with hard work for volunteers like Rebecca Bass, as boxes and more boxes were unloaded at the Support Your Troops Resale Center in Killeen.

"That's where we dumping the diapers," Bass said.

Being a military wife for more than a decade, she understands the financial difficulties that many Fort Hood families and veterans go through.

"Being in the Army you know it's a prideful thing, they come in upset, distraught," Bass said.

And that's where the resale shop steps in, with items like diapers, clothes, toiletries, appliances and much more.

Ninety percent of the items received are going to support Fort Hood kids, making sure that no child goes with out.

"The biggest thing for us at Operation Once In A Life Time is to make sure that the families of soldiers don't have to worry about their kids not having enough diapers and not having enough clothes," said Support Your Troops Resale Manager John Valentine.

So while the soldiers are out fighting for our country, the resale center is here to make sure their family is taken care of.

"All the money we raise is for that purpose," said Valentine.

And if you see a price on a tag, but don't have the funds, no need to worry, these guys are always willing to make a deal.

"When they leave they're happy and content and they know they've been helped," said Bass.

With the resale store receiving all these donations, this military mom feels even better knowing the center can turn around and help out people just like herself.

"Two, four, six, months down the road people come in we will have the stock to help them its an amazing feeling," said Bass.

Which is a feeling Rebecca Bass said cant be replaced.

If you'd like to help out the Support Your Troops Resale Center they're always taking donations.

You can drop off food, lightly used clothes, appliances, and toiletries to 317 E. Avenue C in Killeen.
