(KCEN) -- The 21-year-old grandson of billionaire oil man T. Boone Pickens has died of an apparent drug overdose.

Ty Pickens was a junior at TCU.

He was visiting two friends near campus who say he wouldn't wake up after using heroin and taking Xanax Monday night.

Instead of calling 9-1-1, one of the friends drove him to the hospital where Pickens was pronounced dead.

Police say it's too early to decide if any criminal charges will be filed.

A spokesman for T. Boone Pickens wrote, "Ty's loss at such a young age is an unspeakable family tragedy for the entire Pickens family and his many friends."
