(KCEN) -- An estimated ten tons of human waste spilled onto University Drive yesterday afternoon when a city of Bryan truck flipped.
It happened as the driver made a left turn from Spring Loop onto University to take the waste to a compost facility.
The driver wasn't hurt.
The biggest inconvenience came to others as the mess closed the eastbound lanes of University Drive for hours.
Joshua Varner of the College Station Fire Department said, "It's a major thorough fare throughout the city, so we have a lot of traffic that comes through here and diverting all of that traffic to an alternate route was more of a challenge."
Since the waste was "treated" it wasn't a health hazard but crews sprayed the road with bleach and water and vacuumed that up to be safe.
Police and the city are looking into the cause of the accident.
They say the load may have shifted, because it apparently is a very routine trip.
