Randy Travis Receives Sentence for DWI in North Texas

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Country singer Randy Travis has pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in north Texas.

The 53-year-old received a 180-day suspended jail sentence, 24 months of probation and a $2,000 fine.

All this for crashing his Pontiac Trans Am near Tioga in August of last year.

Officers say Travis was naked and combative at the scene and had a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.

Travis took a moment to speak to the media after receiving his sentence yesterday evening.

He said, "Thanks for the courtesy of the court here today. And to the two patrolmen, I'll say thanks to them for obviously taking care of me that night. I met them today for the first time."

The DWI is one of several recent run-ins with the law by Travis.

He has plead not guilty to assaulting someone in a church parking lot last August.

And later that month his truck was found wrecked and abandoned in a field in Frisco.

But police have not filed any charges in that case.
