(KCEN) -- There are some changes in the military when it comes to same-sex couples and the benefits that come with serving our country.
The Pentagon is expected to begin granting those couples access to benefits of military spouses.
Those include housing on military bases, military ID cards and consideration of a same-sex spouse and family in duty assignments.
There is also some talk of giving them access to health and welfare programs, as well as commissary and other military subsidized stores.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is expected to make the announcement sometime this week.
His likely replacement Chuck Hagel says he supports the move.
