(KCEN) -- The countdown is underway for the 2014 winter Olympics in Russia.
One year from now, the country will play host to the celebrated games.
The resort town of Sochi is already getting everything into high gear.
The town's mild climate and parks may be part of the reason it won the rights to host the iconic games.
Olympic buildings being built extend for miles from the town's coast and up the mountains.
Crews are busily building venues and upgrading existing infrastructure.
Dmitry Chernyshenko with the Sochi 2014 Organization said, "We are testing now with 22 international level test events, like World Cup and higher."
The cost of the games has already risen to more than 50 billion dollars. That's five times more than expected.
