(KCEN) -- A San Antonio man faces attempted capital murder charges after shooting a sheriff's deputy twice.

Deputies were trying to serve a warrant at a home in San Antonio last night.

They searched the home where Juan Daniel Gonzales Jr was apparently hiding.

He surprised one of them and shots were fired.

28-year-old Deputy Jose Esquivel is in a hospital with serious wounds.

He was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

Gonzales remains in jail.
