Killeen Taking Applications For Summer Jobs

Jobs are hard to come by these days. So when a city announces they're getting ready to hire more than 90 people, you may want get your resume ready. But you'll have to wait a little while before these jobs start. That's because they're summer jobs. 

Summer isn't all fun and games. Some kids are already thinking about summer jobs, even it's a tough job market out there.

"I'm not really worried but I know it's hard to get a job out here in Killeen," says one Killeen High School student.

"I want a job. I need money so I can stop asking my parents for money all the time," said another student.

Well these kids are in luck. The city of Killeen is already hiring summer jobs for students like life guards, water safety instructors, and cashiers for the for the Aquatics Center.

"It's an opportunity for kids who are off school to get some job experience," said Director of Public Information for Killeen, Hillary Shine. She says these jobs are perfect for students. "The summer jobs are specifically put together to coincide with school calendar so whether kids are off of KISD schools or if they're home for college they can typically meet that schedule during the summer months."

Anyone can apply, as long as you're at least 16-years-old. They range from $7.25 -$10/hr. With 92 open jobs, there's something for everyone, no matter what kind of job you're looking for.                                                                                                                                                   

One student says "using my hands, type of jobs, like getting dirty," is what he wants to do on his job.

And there are jobs open for that too. Killeen plans to hire grounds maintenance, drainage, and recycling workers.
