(KCEN) -- After 16 years on the run, an escaped Texas prisoner is now back in police custody.
Juan Salaz, 37, escaped from a Beeville prison in 1997.
He was serving a 35-year sentence for two counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer and kidnapping.
But last Wednesday he was found by police in Mexico and arrested.
Now in addition to his 35-year sentence, Salaz faces a felony escape charge.
He'll be transferred back to the U.S. once his extradition is approved by the Mexican government.
