(KCEN) -- Too much calcium may be do more harm than good. That's because medical experts say it appears to raise the risk of death among women.
Those experts recommend calcium supplements for women to help preserve bone health and prevent osteoporosis.
But a new study of 61,000 women found those who consumed high amounts of calcium had the highest rates of death from any cause and especially from cardiovascular disease.
Researchers say to prevent fractures, supplements should only be advised for those with low levels of dietary calcium and are not necessary for those already getting enough from their diet.
