(KCEN) -- The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee has recommended that wrestling, governed by the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles not be included on the list of core Olympic sports.

Wrestling will now join the seven short listed sports, baseball/softball, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, wakeboarding and wushu, vying for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic program.

The IOC decided to review the Olympic sports and cut one to make room for a new sport to be included.

The board made the decision based on 39 criteria, including TV ratings and ticket sales.
