Police in South Africa have told the Associated Press that double-amputee Olympian Oscar Pistorius has been involved in a deadly shooting at his home.
NBC news has not been able to independently verify the report but police have confirmed that there was a shooting at Pistorius' home and that a 26-year old was taken into custody.
Pistorius is 26, but police would not name him as the man detained.
Several South African media outlets are reporting that Pistorius' girlfriend was killed in the incident and that he may have mistaken her for a burglar and shot her.
Pistorius made history at the London Olympics last year when he became the first double-amputee runner to compete on the track at the games and is one of South Africa's most famous athletes.
