
Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball
team led the entire way, pushing the lead over 30 in the first half, as
the Cru rolled to a 99-63 victory over Sul Ross State Saturday
afternoon in Belton. UMHB improves to 8-16 overall 7-12 in American
Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss ends the Lobos'
season at 1-24 overall and 0-19 in the ASC.
The Cru
scored the game's first five points and led by double digits at 24-13
with 12:06 remaining in the first half. The lead would grow to as many
as 31 before UMHB took a 57-27 lead into halftime. The Cru stretched the
lead as far as 37 points in the second half before cruising to its
sixth win in the last nine games.
Taylor Tucker led UMHB
with 17 points and she added 10 rebounds. Jovana Miles added 16 points
and 10 boards. Kourtney Bevers scored 14 and Tori Tucker chipped in 11
more. Twelve different players scored for UMHB and the Cru shot 51
percent from the field. UMHB out rebounded the Lobos 63-37 in the
victory.
Arselle Anderson led Sul Ross with 14 points and
Nicole Murdock scored 13. Amanda Garza had a double-double with 10
points and 10 rebounds and Tonee Montoya also scored 10. The Lobos shot
just 29 percent from the field and 22 percent from three-point range in
the game.
The Cru will now advance to the ASC
Championship Tournament next weekend in Brownwood. UMHB is the #4 seed
from the ASC West and will face East Division champion Louisiana College
in the opening round. The complete bracket and tournament information
will be released early next week.
