(KCEN) -- The Olympic athlete known as the "blade runner" has been formally charged with the murder of his girlfriend.
South African prosecutors said in court that they will argue Oscar Pistorius committed premeditated murder when he shot his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp.
News of the murder case against Pistorius has rocked the world of international sports.
Jamaican gold medalist Usain Bolt said he couldn't believe it when he heard about the charges against the fellow Olympian.
"'What? Who? as in the amputee? The guy who ran the 400 meter?' I was asking all kinds of questions because this can't be the same guy that I've seen, that I know," says Bolt.
This past summer Pistorius became the first amputee runner to compete in the summer Olympics.
