(KCEN) -- The nations deficit was the hot topic for Arizona Senator and Former Presidential Candidate John McCain this morning on Meet the Press.
The senator says President Obama needs to work with republicans to avoid the sequester and solve the nations deficit.
He also defended republican senators "delaying" the nomination of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense.
Adding he believes Hagel will ultimately get confirmed.
"And we will have a vote when we get back, and I'm confident that Senator Hagel will probably have the votes necessary to be confirmed as the Secretary of Defense," says Senator McCain.
"It's time for the president, who said sequester won't happen, to maybe sit down with some republicans and talk to them about this issue."
McCain says he'd also be glad to close some tax loopholes that are outrageous and disgraceful.
