(KCEN) -- A new Gallup poll has released state percentages of adults who identify as part of lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
The city with the highest percentage of people who identify themselves with those terms is Washington DC with ten percent of adults saying they are LGBT.
The lowest percentage is in North Dakota, with 1.7 percent.
The nationwide average is 3.5 percent and according to the poll, most of the states fall within that average.
Washington DC and Hawaii were above five percent and North Dakota was the only state below two percent.
Gallup says this was the largest single study on the distribution of the LGBT population.
