(KCEN) -- An Oregon girl is in serious condition after suffering third degree burns to nearly 20 percent of her body. Burns she suffered in her hospital bed.
It happened February 2 at a children's hospital in Portland, Ore.
Eleven-year-old Ireland Lane was at the hospital after a fall at her home in Klamath Falls.
Lane was reportedly making crafts for her nurses when suddenly she ran into the hall, her body engulfed in flames.
Her dad, who was asleep in the room at the time, ran into the hallway and jumped on his daughter to put out the fire.
The cause is still unknown, but it's believed that static electricity combined with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer may be to blame.
The state fire marshal is investigating.
