
The McLennan Highlassies clinched a spot in the Region V Tournament with a 57-52 win over the Hill Lady Rebels tonight in Hillsboro.
Hill
jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. MCC responded with a 12-0 run to take
the 12-3 lead with 13:20 to play in the first half. The Lady Rebels
rallied to tie the game at 14. Hill led 23-19 with 4:20 to go in the
half. The Highlassies ended the half on a 9-3 run to lead 28-27 at the
break.
MCC pulled away in the second half taking the 53-39 lead,
the largest of the game, with 5:42 to play. Hill fought back, cutting
the lead to five several times in the final seconds but was unable to
pull any closer.
Quiana Tucker and Cha'Zaye Wright led the Highlassies with 10 points each.
In men's action, the Highlanders fell to the Rebels 72-53.
MCC
struggled early on, allowing Hill to build a 10-point lead at 14-4 with
15:20 to play in the first half. The Highlanders rallied, cutting the
lead to four with 8:04 remaining. The Rebels pulled away once again,
taking the 33-22 advantage at the break.
The Highlanders cut the
lead to seven early in the second half but Hill quickly returned the
lead to double-digits and MCC never recovered.
Shawn Prudhomme led the Highlanders with 21 points.
The Highlassies will host Cisco at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Hihglnaders will return to action on Feb. 27, hosting Southwestern Christian at 7:30 p.m.
