Central Texas Boy Scout Leaders Speak Out About Ban On Gay Members

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- You may have heard that the Boy Scouts of America is considering removing its ban on gay members.

Now two angry central Texas Scout Leaders are speaking out about why they're against the idea.

The main reason the Boy Scout leaders say they want to keep the ban, is because they feel it protects Boy scouts.

They say not all gay people are bad or pedophiles but they maintain all gays must be excluded because it's the only way to protect all of the boys from a few destructive people.

The Boy Scout leaders who spoke to us claim male gay pedophiles flock to all-male organizations just like the Boy Scouts to find their next victims.

And they say that makes it easier for gay pedophiles to molest, rape and abuse young boys.

They also claim being gay is not part of the Boy Scout motto. Boy Scouts is a group that teaches boys to lead morally strait lifestyles and they say being homosexual doesn't fall under those criteria.

Although most Boy Scout groups here in central Texas don't turn away possibly gay children, they currently will not allow an openly gay person to be a Boy Scout leader.

Boy Scout Unit Commissioner Willie Capps said, "There are some good gays out there and they can teach us a lot of stuff. They're good people, however to protect these boys we have to keep them out because we can't guarantee their safety."

Boy Scout Master Phil Everett said, "Let gays do whatever they want to do, but leave us alone. Start your own gay organization. Have your own gay Boy Scouts of America or whatever you want to have."

The Boy Scouts of America Board of Directors is expected to vote and announce their decision this May.
