NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Texas A&M fell behind
early in the game and could not fight back at Vanderbilt, falling by a
score of 61-51 at Memorial Gym in Nashville, Tenn.
Junior Kelsey Bone's led the Aggies with 17 points
and senior Kristi Bellock had her seventh double-double of the season,
scoring 12 points and collecting 10 rebounds.
Texas A&M falls to 21-7 overall and 11-3 in conference, while Vanderbilt improved to 18-9 overall and 8-6 in league play.
The Aggies opened the scoring with a Courtney
Walker jumper, but the Commodores scored the next seven points to take a
7-2 lead into the first media timeout. A&M was 0-6 from the floor
during the stretch with each of the Aggie starters
misfiring from the floor.
The maroon and white then scored six straight
points to reclaim the lead at 8-7, forcing Vanderbilt to call a timeout.
The score stayed the same through the next media timeout; senior
Adrienne Pratcher controlled the offense assisting on
three of the first four A&M baskets.
Vanderbilt responded hitting several jumpers to
take a 16-13 lead at the under eight media timeout, Elan Brown had 10
points in the first half to help the Commodores take the lead. The
Commodores maintained the three point lead for much
of the next four minutes.
The Aggies went into the break trailing 25-20 at
the break, the lowest first half point total for the Aggies in a game
this season. Texas A&M was 8-for-28 from the floor in the first 20
minutes, for a 28.6 shooting percentage the lowest
for a first half this season.
After the break, the Commodores scored the first
six points to take a game-high 11 point lead. Bone answered with a
layup, but that did not stop the Vandy run as Jasmine Lister made a
three off an offensive rebound that pushed the lead
out to 12 points at 38-25 with just under 16 minutes to play.
A&M made a strong push to get back into the
game cutting the Commodore lead to just three points at 47-44 with 6:52
to play, but Vanderbilt responded with a 11-3 run to push the lead back
to 12 with just over a minute to play and squad
A&M's comeback attempt.
Bone and Bellock were the only two Aggies in double
figures, but Walker had nine points and seven rebounds in 36 minutes of
play. Pratcher played all 40 minutes for the first time in her career
scoring seven points and tallying six assists.
Vanderbilt was led by Tiffany Clarke's career-high
30 points and seven rebounds. Elan Brown added 12, while Jasmine Lister
put up 11 points on the night.
The Aggies final road game of the regular season will be back in the state of Tennessee for a match-up with the Lady Vols Thursday on CSS at 6:00 p.m.
