NASA and Johns Hopkins University Release New Image of Mercury

(KCEN) -- Here's a side of Mercury you've never seen before.

NASA and John's Hopkins University's Applied Physics Department released the false-color image of the planet closest to the sun.

But this isn't what Mercury would look like to the naked eye.

Instead, astronomers say it illustrates the many different chemicals and minerals that make up the scorchingly-hot planet.
