(KCEN) -- Pope Benedict has changed the rules of conclave.
This morning Benedict amended church law allowing conclave to begin as soon as all of the conclave Cardinals can gather in Rome after he retires.
Before, Cardinals would have had to wait 15 days before meeting to discuss a successor.
Meantime, the highest-ranking Catholic church official in the United Kingdom has stepped down due to scandal and will not be attending conclave.
Scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien resigned after being accused by three priests and a former priest of inappropriate behavior going back to 80s.
