UPDATE (KCEN) -- The Killeen Fire Marshal's Office says that the cause of the apartment fire that destroyed a building in the Stonehill Apartments last night was a cooking pan left on an unattended stove with a burner on.
High winds were also a contributing factor in the fire.

(KCEN) -- 12 people are without a home after fire ripped through a Killeen apartment building Monday evening.
The blaze broke out at 6:30 pm at the Stonehill Apartments 501 West Central Texas Expressway.
Fire officials said the fire started on the first floor and spread quickly because of the windy conditions.
No injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross is helping the victims displaced by the fire.
Firefighters will remain at the scene to make sure no hot spots flare up.
No word yet on what sparked the fire.
