(KCEN) -- As you prepare to file those income taxes, you may start seeing e-mails from the IRS.
But don't open those emails.
More than likely than not, it's bogus. The IRS says it receives thousands of reports every year from taxpayers who've been sent e-mails claiming to be from the agency.
But it's important to know the IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers through e-mail. It will always contact you through snail mail.
If you receive an e-mail claiming to be from the IRS, the agency advises you not to reply to the message, not to open any attachments and to not give out any confidential information.
