(KCEN) -- The federal government is now conducting a probe into some Ford and Mercury cars.
The probe affects Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans and Ford Escape and Mercury Mariners SUVs, all from the 2009 through 2011 model years.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vehicles can unexpectedly go into, "limp home mode" at reduced power.
The agency and Ford have received nearly 1,500 complaints about the problem, including reports of three crashes and an injury.
The investigation could lead to a recall.
