TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team battled 30
mile per hour wind gusts and chilly temperatures to post a second-place
team finish at the UMHB Spring Classic Tuesday
in Killeen. The Cru women fired a 322 team total to finish in second
place, 11 strokes behind team champion Redlands Community College's 311
total. U.T.-Tyler claimed third place with a 327, U.C.-Santa Cruz
finished
fourth with a 341 and Southwestern University rounded out the top five
with a 348. Murray State Community College and Southwestern (KS) College
tied for sixth place with 363's and the Southwestern University Gold
team claimed eighth place after shooting 383.
Victoria
Thane posted the top individual finish for UMHB. Thane tied for fourth
place with a 79. Taylor O'Rear and Kelly Gonyea both carded 80's for the
Cru to tie for sixth place. Ashley Garbade's 83 was good for a tie for
15th place, Allison Holly shot 85 to tie for 18th place, Emily Santos fired an 88 to tie for 26th place and Sara Eckert posted a 91 to tie for 31st
individually. Sarah Schober of Redlands CC won the individual title after carding a one-over par 73.
The tournament was shortened to 18 holes by the high winds on Monday and the event was played on a par-72, 5,982-yard layout at Stonetree Golf Course in Killeen. The UMHB women will return to action with a trip to the Jekyll Island Invitational. That tournament will be played March 15-17 at the Indian Mound Course in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
