(KCEN) -- Political risks are no longer an excuse for not strengthening gun safety laws.
Those are words from the Vice President today.
Vice President Joe Biden recounted the impact the Newtown Elementary School shootings have had on the nation.
He said politicians who support gun law reform are on the right side of the issue both morally and politically.
"Sandy Hook changed all that. Twenty, 20 innocent babies riddled, riddled with bullet holes. Were the press not here I could tell you what's not public yet about how gruesome it was," Biden said.
Biden again touted universal background checks, magazine capacity limits and an assault weapons ban as ways to reduce gun violence while preserving Second Amendment rights.
