Posted: Updated:

Austin, TX-- Forward Brechelle Beachum and center Ashley Johnson combined for 10 steals to help Mexia race to victory in a Class 3A semifinal.

Neither team shot well, but Mexia took advantage of 28 turnovers by Krum, converting them into 23 points. Beachum helped Mexia overcome a 24-22 halftime deficit by scoring 16 points while guards Na'Teshia Owens and Ariel Ballard scored 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Many of Krum's turnovers turned into easy buckets for Mexia, which owned a 34-12 edge in points in the paint.

Mexia (35-3) will make its first trip to a state final on Saturday, when the Blackcats will play Kennedale at 10 a.m. at the Erwin Center.

Rachel Wallace scored 15 points for Krum (29-7), and Julia Schmaltz added 14. Krum topped Mexia in rebounding 35-27, with Schmaltz leading both teams with 11.
