San Antonio Girl Sells Toys for the Homeless

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) --  A first grader in San Antonio proves you have to be an adult to do big things.

The youngster is using old toys to help those less fortunate.

Sorting through mounds of toys, clothes and other items Kayli Hernandez is on a mission to help others.

"Well, I really want to help the homeless people a lot," Hernandez said.

And she's doing that by holding a garage sale.

Kayli is then donating all of the proceeds to CAM or Christian Assistance Ministry.

Her mom says Kayli's giving and loving spirit is just part of her nature.

Kayli's mother Connie Hernandez said, "She has been around CAM, and that's been a good experience for her, and she sees what a good program it is, and how people do get help. She's also adopted and she has that sense of somebody helped her, so she would like to help others as well."

Dawn White of CAM said, "She may be small, but she's very smart and she definitely has a mind of her own. I think we were all excited to support that kind of ingenuity that a child would have to help others."

And for Kayli, who says she hopes the garage sale raises a $100-billion, there's never been a better time to help than now.

"Come on down, and come to my garage sale. Oh yeah."
