Posted: Updated:

UPDATE (KCEN) -- The accident has been cleared. All northbound lanes of I-35 in Salado are open.

TXDot says traffic is beginning to clear but it may take a while for the flow of vehicles to return to normal.

Authorities are assessing the damage to the bridge.

----------------------------------------

(KCEN) -- An accident involving a semi truck has the outside northbound lane of I-35 closed at FM 2484, just north of Salado.

According to TXDot, the semi, which has a dump-type bed, hit a bride support column. The truck was moved to the side of the highway, but because of the extent of the damage, it can't be moved completely off the highway easily.

The impact nearly ripped the bed off the trailer wheels and it will take a while to clear the accident.

There is no specific estimate for clearing the accident, but TXDot does say clearing the site will take a while.

If you are driving through the area, expect congestion and traffic to develop.

We will continue to post updates as they become available.
