Killeen Man Arrested After Leading Temple Police on Chase

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- A Killeen man was arrested in Temple this morning after leading police officers on a chase that lasted for more than 10 minutes.

The incident started at 7:50 when an officer saw the vehicle driving recklessly down I-35 north. Officers tried to pull the vehicle over and the driver exited at the S.W. HK Dodgen Loop. Instead of stopping, the driver sped away from police.

A chase ensued which lasted for more than 10 minutes. The driver eventually stopped his car at Avenue R and South 21st Street.

But when officers tried to get the driver out of the car, he violently resisted.

That's when police used a taser to get the man under control and take him into custody.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 34-year-old Thomas Kiefer of Killeen. Kiefer was the only person in the car.

He was taken to the Bell County Jail where he was charged with driving while license invalid, resisting arrest and evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

His bond has not yet been set.

During this incident, Travis Middle School was placed on lockdown as a precaution because the chase was close to the campus. Neither the school nor the students were in danger during the chase.
