Delhi,
LA – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's golf team is one of
eight teams within four shots of the lead as the Cru sits in a tied for
third
place after the opening round of the Mississippi College Invitational.
UMHB fired a 329 team total and is tied with Texas Lutheran University
and Arkansas-Monticello for third place, just one shot off the pace set
by co-leaders McMurry University (328) and
U.T.-Dallas (328). U.T.-Tyler and Millsaps College are tied for sixth
place with 331's and Maryville University is in eighth place with a 332.
There are a total of 17 teams competing in the event, including eight
American Southwest Conference programs.
Brady
Purdom posted the top individual finish for UMHB and is tied for the
individual lead with a 76. Purdom is tied with Delta State's Cameron
Thomas for
the overall lead. Bryce Myburgh's 80 puts him in a tie for fifth place
individually. Robby Schimmels carded an 82 for the Cru and is tied for
19th, Justin Judkins shot 84 to tie for 32nd, Stayton Lindeman is tied for 47th place
with an 87 and Spencer Turner fired a 96 to tie for 74th place.
The
two-day, 36-hole tournament is being played on a par-72, 7,200-yard
layout at Black Bear Golf Club in Delhi, Louisiana. Teams will tee off
in tomorrow's final round
with a 9:00 AM shotgun start.
