(KCEN) -- A Waco police officer is recovering from a fractured wrist he suffered while trying to take a suspect, who was carrying a sword, into custody.
At 8:15 this morning, police were called to the Discount Smoke Shop at 1402 North 34th Street for a theft.
The shop clerk said a male had stolen items from the store and had left. He gave officers a description of the suspect.
Police responded and found the suspect, 21-year-old Steven Walker Webb, in the 3200 block of West Edmond.
Webb had several stolen items from the store on him, including a 4-foot sword which he refused to put down when officers approached him.
That's when police had to tase the suspect to take him into custody. One of the officers fractured his wrist while taking Webb into custody.
Webb is being held in the McLennan County Jail where he is charged with theft over $50.00, possession of marijuana under 5 ounces and resisting arrest.
