Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team held the
Robert Morris bats in check in both games and the Cru offense did the
rest in a doubleheader sweep of the Eagles Wednesday
in Belton. UMHB took game one 9-3 and won game two to improve to 7-7 on
the season. Robert Morris falls to 6-2 on the year with the two losses.
The
Cru roared back from an early deficit to post a 9-3 victory in game
one. The Eagles scored three runs in the top of the first as UMHB
pitchers hit three batters and walked three more. The Cru answered with a
six-run second inning. Tyler Taute singled home the first two runs and
an error allowed two more runs to score. Chris Florack added an RBI
triple and scored on another error. UMHB then put three more on the
board in the bottom of the fourth. Justin Dingman blasted a two-run
homer and Seth Mogavero added an RBI single. Jeremy Sapp earned the win
with four and a third innings of one-hit relief work. Four Cru pitchers
combined to limit the Eagles to two hits in the win. Florack and Robert
Loewe had two hits apiece for UMHB.
The Cru also fell
behind in game two before rallying for a victory. The Eagles took a 1-0
lead in the top of the first before Chase Burrow tripled and scored on
Taute's sacrifice fly to tie it in the bottom of the second. Robert
Morris retook the lead in the top of the third inning, but Florack's
bases loaded double in the bottom of the fourth plated all three runners
to give UMHB a 4-2 lead. Taute doubled home Burrow in the fifth to make
it 5-2 Cru. RMU added a run in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to
5-3 but Chance Ryan struck out three in the top of the seventh to notch
his first save of the season. Jordan Mattke earned the win to move to
2-0. Florack had three hits and drove in three runs for UMHB. Burrow,
Garrett Webb and Will Stafford added two hits apiece.
The
Cru will continue its home stand with the start of American Southwest
Conference West Division play this weekend. UMHB will host Texas
Lutheran for a three-game series opening with a 6:00 PM single game on Friday.
