North Korea threatened the United States Thursday with a preemptive nuclear strike.
The threat is a sharp increase in the level of rhetoric by the North against the U.S. and comes as the U.N. security council considers new sanctions against the reclusive country.
North Korea is accusing the united states of using military drills in South Korea as a launch pad for a nuclear war.
Today's threat comes just days after one of the country's top generals said North Korea has scrapped the armistice with the U.S. and South Korea that ended hostilities in the 1950 to 53 Korean War.
Threats by the North are common during military drills but the north has not made threats as severe as these in years
