(KCEN) -- A Woodway man threatened to kill police, leading to a five-hour standoff early this morning.
Tyler Stass allegedly threatened to kill any cop who attempted to arrest him.
He was armed with a rifle.
Family members said before police arrived at Stass's home, he was drinking and got into an argument with his girlfriend.
After leaving Stass's home on the 500 block of Bellaire, his girlfriend called police.
Stass refused to come out of the home, leading to the five hour stand-off.
Neighbors say they woke up to sounds of yelling and loud popping noises
One neighbor, Bert Mercer, said, "The sound of grenades and then later apparently tear gas because the officers were wearing tear gas mask."
After hours of negotiations, Stass was arrested around 5 a.m.
He's charged with evading arrest, assault on a police officer and abuse of the 9-1-1 system.
