It was a day filled will sweet puppy dog faces all looking for a good home.

Saturday several Central Texas groups came together to participate in the Mega Adoption Festival in Waco.

For people like Josh and Holly, finding the perfect pet isn't about spending a fortune, it's about something much more, saving a life.

"It's always better just to get a rescue dog because every dog needs a second chance and a fighting chance," said Josh Moorman.

His other three dogs have all been rescued, and now there's one in particular at the Mega Adoption Festival, that's caught his eye.

"The ones that had a rough life I have a more interest in, just to give them a better home that they never had before," said Moorman.

Which is what the mega adoption is all about.

The Waco Animal Alliance is made up of six animal rescue and welfare organizations in McLennan County, all looking to better the lives of orphan animals.

"Our goal is to help animals and help them get adopted help reduce intake at our local shelters," said Amy Oakley with the Waco Animal Alliance.

And if you aren't able to adopt there are still ways to help.

"We just want their participation, we encourage people get involved whether its adopting an animal, or fostering an animal, or donating, or volunteering their time. There is a way for everyone to get involved and help the animals," said Oakley.

In McLennan County there's a growing number of animals that need to be rescued.

But it's going to take more than just a few good people, like Holly and Josh to get the issue under control.

And learning more about your local rescue groups could help do the trick.

"A lot of people don't know half of them that are in town and what their mission is," said Moorman.

Hundreds of puppies in McLennan County aren't looking for much in life, just a loving family and a good home.
