(KCEN) -- Police in Arlington will now have eyes in the skies.
The Federal Government recently approved the use of unmanned aircraft by the police department.
And while that may sound like they'll be using drones police officials in Arlington want people to know these aircrafts will carry cameras, not weapons.
The 58 inch-long, battery powered, remote controlled helicopters are supposed to be flown within view of the officer operating them.
Sgt. Christopher Cook of the Arlington Police Department says, "We are not going to use these in routine patrol. These are only going to be used after careful evaluation."
Police say it will also allow them to assist other agencies like the fire department.
And it can help investigate car accidents, instead of having officers spend hours on the ground reconstructing scenes.
