(KCEN) -- A hospital in Midland is paying about $400,000 to cover the bill for some patients.
The bill will cover those patients treated in the deadly train accident that killed four veterans last year. That accident happened when a train smashed into a flatbed truck that was carrying veterans during a parade honoring their service.
Midland Memorial Hospital says they'll cover the cost of all 17 patients they treated that night.
After the hospital decided to pay for the medical bills of the patients, other community groups stepped up and pitched in as well.
An area donor gave a substantial amount and then challenged the board at the hospital to match their donation.
That's when the Permian Basin Area Foundation gathered about $100,000 in donations to help cover the expenses.
Several of the donors chose to remain anonymous.
Donations are still being accepted. If you would like to donate, go to www.showofsupport.org or www.pbaf.org.
