Japan Marks Two-Year Anniversary of Earthquake and Tsunami

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- On this day two years ago, Japan suffered an earthquake and tsunami that devastated the country.

The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant became the site of the worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.

Today workers are still struggling with contaminated water and high radiation leaking from the plant's receptors.

The disaster sparked major protests among the Japanese who called for an end to the use of nuclear power.

The government recently designed a modern-day Noah's Ark to withstand the force of a tsunami.

The 200 foot long ship became stranded after the disaster and residents want to preserve it as a memorial.
